Adam Emory Albright

1862 - 1957

Adam Emory Albright is widely regarded as one of the premier American Impressionist painters. He was born in Monroe, Wisconsin in 1862. He was one of the first students at the Art Institute of Chicago and studied there from 1881 - 1883.He then went on to study painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts under Thomas Eakins from 1883 - 1886, after which he continued his studies in Paris and Munich. Albright established his studio in Chicago in 1888, and quickly became known as one of the city's leading artists. Albright is best known for his Impressionistic landscapes and genre scenes of children. He spent several summers in the renowned artist colony in Brown County, Indiana. Albright's paintings are represented in over a dozen museums across America, including the Art Institute of Chicago and the St. Louis Art Museum. Albright died in 1957.
