Adelsteen Normann

Adelsteen Normann

(1848 - 1918)

Having started a career in business, Normann moved to Dusseldorf to study painting in his early 40's, a student of German painter Eugene Ducker. A quick learner, he was soon exhibiting at Salons in Berlin, Munich, Vienna, Dusseldorf and London. He was admitted to the Salon des Artistes Francais de Paris, receiving an honorable mention in 1884, and the bronze medal at the Universal Exposition of 1889. Considered a national hero in his native Norway, Adelsteen Normann painted the dramatic vistas of his native land, featuring the fiords, mountains and glens of rural Norway. Today his paintings can be found in prominent musuems across Europe and the Americas.
