Charles William Dahlgreen

1864 - 1955

Charles Dahlgreen was born in Oak Park, IL on September 8, 1864. He was a landscape painter, an etcher, and a teacher. He studied painting at the Dusseldorf Art School, the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and the Art Institute of Chicago. His teachers included William Penhollow Henderson, John C. Johansen, John H. Vanderpoel, Louis Betts and Charles Francis Browne. He has been exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco, as well as the Hoosier Salon, and the Chicago Gallery Association. His work is currently represented at the National Museum of American Art at the Smithsonian Institute, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Library of Congress, and the Los Angeles Museum of Art, among others.
