Daniel Kotz

1848 - 1933

Daniel Kotz was born March 21, 1848 in South Bend, Indiana. He was a student of Irish-born Chicago artist Henry F. Spread who taught at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts which was the forerunner of the Art Institute of Chicago. Kotz was a landscape artist and is associated with the "Indiana School" of painting despite his relocation to the East Coast. He exhibited extensively at the Art Institute of Chicago participating in twelve exhibitions from 1889 through 1917. Kotz maintained his studio and taught painting in Park Ridge, New Jersey throughout his career until his death in 1933.
