Frank Charles Peyraud

Frank Charles Peyraud

1858 - 1948

Frank Peyraud was born in Bulle, Switzerland in 1858. He studied academic painting at the renowned "Ecole des Beaux-Arts" in Paris. In 1881, at the age of 22, he came to live and work in the rapidly growing and culturally thriving city of Chicago. Peyraud 's technique combined his academic training in Paris with his interpretation of the Midwestern landscape in the tradition of the French Impressionists. He was embraced by the artistic community and became known as the Dean of Chicago Landscape Artists. Peyraud was a member of the most prestigious clubs of his day, including the Chicago Painters Society, the Chicago Watercolor Club and the National Arts Club in New York. He was awarded gold medals in six competitions at the Art Institute of Chicago where he was exhibited over 120 times between 1891 and 1930, and a bronze medal from the Panama-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco in 1915. Peyraud's work is currently represented at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Union League Club in Chicago, the Friend of American Art in Chicago, the Municipal Art Collection of Phoenix, Arizona and the Art Museum at Bulle.
