Frederic A. Tellander

1878 - after 1941

Frederick Tellander was born in Paxton, Illinois in 1878. He studied in Rome and Paris. Tellander was an accomplished artist who divided his time between Chicago and Paris. He was a member of the Chicago Painters and Sculptors and the Chicago Galleries Association. He won numerous prizes including one from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1923 and 1927, the Fine Arts Building Purchase Prize in 1927, the gold medal from the Chicago Painters and Sculptors in 1926, and the Chicago Galleries Association Prize in 1930. His work is currently represented in the collections of Lawrence College, Beloit College and the Joseph Sears School in Kenilworth, Illinois. Tellander was an accomplished artist who divided his time between Chicago and Paris. "Pont Neuf" was painted in Paris in 1928. In 1930 it was exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, where Tellander showed close to one hundred times throughout his career. The painting was acquired by the Oshkosh Museum in Wisconsin, where it was displayed until 1999.
