Garada Clark Riley

Garada Clark Riley

1893 - 1991

Garada Clark Riley was a pupil on Louis Ritman at the Chicago Art Institute between 1912 and 1916. A professional artist always seeking to expand her knowledge and improve her skills, she went to Paris and became a student of Fernand Leger and Andre L'Hote, artists in the first generation of cubist design whose importance ranks just under Picasso's and Braques'. Riley also studied the paintings of Pierre Bonnard and Edward Vuillard, and incorporated the layered, thickly painted textures of these Post-Impressionists into her work.
