Henri Farre

1871 - 1934

Henri Farre was born July 13, 1871 in Foix, France. In 1898 Farre traveled to Paris and became a member of the prestigious Salon des Artistes Français. During World War I, the French government recruited Lieutenant Farre as the official representative of the French Air Service. He pioneered the painting of war pictures by means of aerial observation. Once released from his official duties by the French government, Farre settled in Chicago. Farre's honors and awards include the gold medal from the Salon de Artistes Français, and the French Legion of Honor Award.
