Jacob Maris

Signed indistinctly "Maris" Jacob Maris is similar to other Hague School artists such as Cornelius Bouter, Evert Pieters and Jozef Israels. The Hague School painted warm and sentimental scenes of everyday peasant life, using a monochromatic palette. It was best known for its dramatic use of light and shadow. Maris' work is currently represented in museums in Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Glasgow, Holland, Montreal, Munich and Rotterdam and have been sold in Paris, Amsterdam, London, Berlin and New York.
