Jules Rene Herve

1887 - 1981

Jules Herve was born in Langres, France in 1887. He is best known for his Parisian cityscapes and his French countryside scenes, both showing everyday people in their everyday life. Herve began studying art at a young age, then went on to l'Ecole des Fréres, l'Ecole Nationale des Arts Décaratifs de Paris, and finally l'Ecole Supérieure des Beaux Arts de Paris. Herve first exhibited at the Salon of French Artists in 1910, thereafter becoming a regular exhibitor at the Paris Salons. He won several awards, including the Madaille d'Argent from the Salon des Artistes Français in 1914, and the Madaille d'Ore in 1924. Herve was a teacher from 1911 - 1943. Herve is represented in museums throughout France, as well as in New York, Chicago and Casablanca.
