Louis Dali
1905-2001
Dali was a Parisian artist who managed to combine his well known name and high-society contacts into a successful career. A protégée of Maurice Utrillo, his paintings expressed a familiar post-impressionist view of the city of Paris that was popular with both tourists and natives of France. His paintings were reproduced on greeting cards, calendars and even a series of limoges plates. In the years following W.W.II, his comfortable vistas of Paris became more and more sought after as the price for his teachers' (Utrillo's) paintings skyrocketed out of reach for all but the most wealthy collectors. Today his paintings are sought after because they are a reminder of a simpler, less stressful era.
