Louise Stanton

Louise Stanton

1915 - 2005

Louise Parsons Stanton was a Winnetka artist known for her abstract portraits, nature scenes, and cityscapes. Born in Chicago in 1915, Stanton studied portraiture from 1933-1935 at the Yale School of Fine Arts and later studied with well-known Russian sculptor Alexander Archipenko in Chicago while taking classes at the Institute of Design. Stanton worked in a number of different mediums, including oils, water colors, inks, colored pencils, and cray-pas, and her subject matters derived primarily from old images of nature that emerged spontaneously in her memory. In addition to organizing a number of solo exhibitions, Stanton participated in several group shows. Her works are displayed in the Harris Bank collection in Chicago, the St. Charles Public Library, and many private collections.
