Mabel Louis Wheelock
1888 - 1950
Mabel Wheelock was the daughter of a prominent Chicago family who founded the village of Wilmette. An early student of the Art Institute of Chicago, Wheelock was able to take advantage of her education and traveled the US, Canada and Mexico, looking for exotic and interesting places to paint. She had an ability to capture the nuance of season through color and atmosphere. Today, Wheelock is best known for her paintings of the California coast around San Diego and La Jolla .
