Marcus Waterman

Marcus Waterman was born in 1834 in Providence, Rhode Island. He graduated from Brown University in 1857. He was a solitary artist, choosing to paint a variety of landscapes, including the East Coast, Europe, and Africa. He received instruction from painter Thomas Hill and William Morris Hunt. Waterman studied the use and application of color and light on his subjects, which he frequently painted from memory. Waterman's work is represented in the Boston Museum.
