Margaret Sarah Carpenter

Margaret Sarah Carpenter was born in Salisbury, England in 1793 and died in London, England in 1872. She was a painter of portraits and figurative compositions in the early decade of the nineteenth century. A follower of Sir Thomas Lawrence, she was one of the first women artists in Britain to distinguish herself as a talent equal to her male colleagues. Carpenter exhibited her paintings at the Collection of Lord Radnor at his chateau in Longford, England. She won the gold medal at the Society of Arts in England. She was an established artist who earned her reputation in portrait painting. Her works are widely seen in museums throughout England.
