Pierre Möri

Pierre Möri

b. 1943

Pierre Möri was born in Paris in 1942. As a teenager, he lived in a village near Auvers-sur-Oise in the "Valley of the Impressionists", among the landscapes of Van Gogh, Pissaro and Derain. When Möri first began to paint, he was attracted to abstract art and his first years as a painter were devoted to working on non-figurative and calligraphic canvases. He was particularly influenced by Hartung and Mathieu. After studying art in the 1980s, Möri's interests turned toward figurative expression under the influence of the French Fauves and the German Expressionists. He later joined the New Fauvist movement which originated in California. After painting landscapes and still-lifes for years, Möri has added what he calls "scenographies" - pieces that summarize characters, behavior, and situations. Möri is represented in corporate and private collections in Europe and America.
